ILO to help Nigeria create 1m jobs

08 February 2010
ILO to help Nigeria create 1m jobsThe International Labor Organization (ILO) has committed itself to helping the Nigerian government create one million jobs this year.

The non-governmental body has held talks with the African country's minister of labor Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, who revealed that the ILO will assist the administration in implementing its 2010 employment action plan.

Nigeria has been a member of the organization for 50 years and was given support last year in implementing labor market policies.

Mr Kayode claimed that the government was placing more pressure on the ILO this year, so the body realised that Nigeria requires more assistance than they have ever received before.

According to the Daily Triumph, he said: "This year, the organization is going to give us support in implementing the employment action plan under the global jobs pact."

Last month, the British Council announced that it was entering into a partnership with Nigeria's government to address the country's high levels of unemployment. ADNFCR-1275-ID-19601945-ADNFCR
